It's a psychological addiction of sorts. You get used to certain patterns in your life and your brain becomes conditioned to react accordingly. Your brain controls the release of chemicals that make you feel good or feel bad. Having someone in your life, for example, feels good because your brain is releasing these "feel good" chemicals. When that person isn't there the brain is confused and sends out "feel bad" chemicals....so you feel bad or loss.
Here is a bonus. Feeling good is feeling good and you can do things that make you feel good to replace your addiction to a human being. You can't be sad and happy at the same time so, for example, getting a hobby or joining a group of friends or reading a book that makes you feel good.
The problem is that sometimes people want to feel bad. They think they have to mourn the loss of a person and will grieve by avoiding doing something pleasurable. They feel guilty for having a good time because so and so left.
There's a whole study on this. Read the "Road less travelled" watch "the Secret" and "What the Bleep do we know"

It's perfectly natural to want to hang on to the "best" part of a person. It's the rest of the person that you can't live with that caused the break-up. I was just one of the lucky ones and found a person that had more things that I liked than disliked. We have been together for a long time and I still hope for more. You will find the "one" eventually, if you don't compromise too much.

I am going through that right now. I guess it is because you want to feel "loved" or wanted. Wouldnt you want a guy who loves you so much and just wants to be with you? After a break-up, a girl can feel use-less, and she thinks that another guy will solve her problem. Thats my opinion. Best Wishes

it's not that women need the men more. it's just that they show it openly 'cause they're comfortable expressing their emotions... men on the other hand have a tough time with loosening on the repression, don't ya think?
