I'm an alto, and I'm trying out for The Princess and The Pea. I'm looking for a slow song, I guess. Any suggestions?

I would go with "Shy" as well, but you said a slow song, which means a ballad. Another consideration is what role are you hoping for?
The Princess, being an ingenue, will most likely be written to be a soprano. The Queen, however, my be alto.
"Send in the Clowns" is a nice ballad, but it was specifically written for an actress with limited range and no ability to hold notes.
Look into "I Got Lost in His Arms" from Annie Get Your Gun.
As a director of musicals, I can tell you it will not be in your best interest to sing a pop song for a musical audition.
First, pop songs are written to showcase a certain voice, not yours. Second, a simple piano arrangement isn't going to do the pop song justice. Third, pop and musical theater voices are not the same and you will invariably be asked to sing something else or just get overlooked.

The song "Soon It's Gonna Rain" from the Fantasticks is an amazing slow song that could really show off your range as an alto. There are a few high notes in the song, but I've seen many altos perform it. Also, "Come Rain or Come Shine" from St. Louis Woman is a jazz standard that, though often written as a soprano piece, is a great alto song. "I Don't Know How to Love Him" is a belting-rang classic from Jesus Christ Superstar, and "No Good Deed" from Wicked is a good selection as well. I'm not familiar with The Princess and the Pea, but the songs I've listed are varied and at least one of them should fit your needs.

Not sure of any songs from that particular musical, but I'm also an alto, so I know of some good songs you could sing. They're all pretty slow too.

I Dreamed a Dream (from Les Mis)
A Quiet Night at Home (Bare : A Pop Opera)
I'm Not That Girl (Wicked)
Anything but Lonely (Aspects of Love)
Hello, Young Lovers (The King and I)
If We Hold On Together (Land Before Time theme song, very pretty)
There Are Worse Things I Could Do (Grease)

If there are songs you've never heard before, type the title of them on YouTube.

I dreamed a dream- Les mis
Send in the clowns- A little night music
Someone Like You- Jekyll & Hyde
With One Look- Sunset Boulevard
What I did for love- A chorus line
As If we never said goodbye- Sunset Boulevard
There are worse things I could do- Grease
Far From the Home I Love- Fiddler (this is more for a mezzo)
The Past is Another Land- Aida
Stars and the Moon- Songs for a new World (WARNING: this is really hard to play so don't sing it unless you are confident in the accompianist's abilities)
I'm Not that Girl- Wicked
The Girl I meant to be- Secret Garden
Hold On- Secret Garden

Good luck!!

Once Upon a Mattress is a musical based on the same story, and "I'm Shy" is the perfect song for an alto looking to grab a strong role in a musical based on a fairy tale. I'd go with that, remembering that the title of the song is meant ironicallly (so don't be shy).

yet another possibility might desire to be "i'm In Love With a stunning guy" from South Pacific - somewhat upbeat and permits you to illustrate lots of potential that's amazingly substantial in an audition.

I would go with a good old standard. Try something from Gypsy. "Some People" is an amazing song, and it will give you a chance to show off not only your acting skills, but your enunciation as well. Try to find it on You Tube.
