I was in church yesterday and a nun was talking about how she wishes that she could've had children. I was going to suggest adoption, but I wasn't sure if they are allowed to adopt or not.

Yes, they do. The Catholic Church runs many orphanages.
Peace!

Yes. Most nuns wouldn't, as motherhood would get in the way of their obligations to the church, but there is no rule in the Catholic church that says that nuns can't adopt.

I once met a very nice couple of parents: a priest and a nun. They both wanted a child, but did not want to revoke their vows. They were good friends, and decided to have a child together through artificial insemination. They got the approval of their bishop before proceding. All in all, they seemed like a very happy, if unorthodox, family.

Normally they can't adopt because when they become nuns they give up the "things" of the outside world.

There have been instances when they've fostered older children.

I'm sure even though they've made the sacrifice not to have a family of their own they still must miss it at times....they're human.

No they cannot. Their vow of poverty does not allow them to do this. I know of only 1 nun who did adopt but she was asked to leave her community.

In a way they do when they interact with kids in a nice way... I believe they call them "spiritual children" and it doesn't always JUST refer to children.

That's an interesting question. I'm sure if they were allowed to you'd see it happening.
