How did people come to the conclusion that the taller someone is, the bigger their clothes size should be? Is that assuming taller people will automatically have a bigger build or what?

Because I know lots of taller people with small builds who can wear small sizes like a US size 4 (UK size 8) and shorter people like me that have wide hip bones that can't wear less than a US size 6 (UK size 10) without look bony.

I'm wondering if height has anything to do with clothes size at all or whether that is just a myth.

Unfortunately, off the rack is exactly how it sounds! As a general rule, the taller you are, the more material you will need simply to compensate for the additional arm, leg and midsection length.
You will find tall people in a UK size 10, but they will look a heck of a lot slimmer than someone of 5'3 in a size 10!
The thing is, taller people will automatically need more material in their clothes, whether they have a petite or large frame. (NB by tall, I'm referring to 5'10 or above)
If everyone had a dressmaker we wouldn't have this problem!

i think they just go by the average height which is something like 5'6
i know a few shops in the uk have ranges for tall and short people, where you can find any size depending on your build

i know what you mean though, my boyfriend is short but a bit chubby, and if he buys trousers to fit his ****, they're usually wayyyy too long.

I would have thought with your experience on Answers you would have known people are all different sizes. YOU MUST KNOW THAT.
