The diet I'm on doesn't allow for me to have wheat flour in any form. It has to be bran flour, soy flour, oat flour or rye flour, etc.

I've got a box of rye flour here, and I am in the mood for some fried chicken! What spices and seasonings should I add to the rye flour to make chicken breading? How much of each? How does the flavor of rye flour compare to that of white flour?

Will this even be a good idea at all?

That would be different - add some caraway as well!

Rye is only a problem as a substitute for making bread, because it rises differently. But as a coating for fried food, it could turn out to be very interesting (or awful, but you won't know until you try!).

Go for it!

If you use your flour instead of a recommended one, make sure that it is as finely ground and has the same raising qualities or add a raising agent e.g. baking powder. As you have not given the recipe I cannot be more explicit.
