For instance, just walking down the street, writing on a chalkboard or even waiting for a street light to turn from red to green? As though one moment you're just sitting there pondering the mysteries of life while ambiant grooves on the the radio and the next thing you know--whap!-- you fall over dead.

Yes, sometimes they do. A few years ago, an old schoolfriend of mine, walked into the house, closed the door then turned around and died instantly, just standing there. No sign, no sound, nothing. She was literally dead, standing, before her body even touched the floor.

Yes, it does happen sometimes. My dad was walking down the street about a block to meet my mom (he was feeling fine when he left or he wouldn't have left) he had a sudden heart attack and just dropped. She found him lying there. They said he died before ever hit the ground.

I think that its possible, I have heard of something like this happening before. Ususally a heart condition, undetected health issue that the person didn't even know existed.

Absolutely. One day at work a 19 year old co-worker fell flat on his face - dead of a heart attack he never felt coming.

I lost an uncle that died at work at his desk. They found him dead (they said) with his finger in the loop of his coffee cup. Went to take a drink and died. Bam. So, yes, it happens. I hope that's how I go.

And they're the lucky ones. Just think if you had to suffer through months of cancer treatments and then end up dying anyways. A quick death is your dream come true!

What nobody mentioned are poisons. some are slow acting and can kill you a day an hour a wek, etc. after someone slipped you it and you got it into your system somehow. also, what everybody else DID mention, heart attakes, strokes, etc. but poisons are the most subtle killer (i think)..some you never feel coming. the greatest surprise you get is dying from poisons.

Of course they do. It's called a massive heart attack most times.
You don't always have pain for long periods of time. Sometimes it is sudden pain and then kiel over.
Also, sometimes anyeurisms will do that also.
