Hi there, I am a Veterinarian Technition and hope I can answer your question. It is perfectly legal to crop your dogs ears at 1 year, HOWEVER, the problem you may face is finding a good (and moral) Veteriarian who would perform the surgery if your dog is over 7 weeks of age. If you can live with the way your dogs ears were intended by nature, I would say leave them be... it is a painful surgery and leaves scaring which prevents hair growth on the sides of the ears. Not to mention the expense of the procedure especially considering the size of your dog. I never ever recommend anyone to crop ears. Just enjoy your new pup! Hope this helps!

It depends on his ears and how you want them cropped. If you want them cropped short and the dog already has hardened cartilage at the base of the ear, than you may be able to get them cropped. If he is still missing some teeth, he probably is only 4-7 months old.
BUT, if he has mange and was underweight he is probably not healthy enough to go through surgery. I would just get him treated by a vet for the problems that he has now and then leave his ears as they are.

well if he is boney and has mange, y would u want to put him thru having his ears docked? Y not spend the money on getting him up to date on all his shots, monthly heartworm preventative, NEUTERED! and his mange treated? Usually they only do ears while he is still a pup pup anyways.
BS I have 2 pit bulls and have never had a prob getting either one of them into our vets. Infact I HAVE NEVER heard of a vet not accepting a dog because it is a pit bull. I think that poster might need to do some research b4 stating false statistics.

The only reason the old Pitmen clipped their dogs ears is because so their ears would not get torn off when they fought.
It this day and age there is no reason to clip a Pits ears. Pitbulls look sweeter with there ears.
And yes it is WAY to late.
Just enjoy the little guy for who he truly is. You don't need to alter his looks.

I thought this was illegal in some states. Mostly because it's so unnecessary - it's just a cosmetic thing, a trend.
Take the dog to a vet; mange is a serious health issue and he needs to be checked out. And the boniness could mean that he's been starved, and he needs a careful nutrition plan to regain his strength - just giving him lots of food isn't the answer. PLEASE consider your dog's welfare before your vanity.

Yes for the love of god dont cut them now, they need, no HAVE to be done when they are young because when they get older just like we do, their ears cartilidge gets harder and firmer , some as hard as bone. Now You can do it, but it's really gonna hurt and anyone who would do it to a dog of that age should be put out of business.

Ear crops are done at about 9-12 weeks old so yes the dog you have is far to old to have his ears cropped now.

Yes waywayway too late now they will make him go under anasthesia which is not worth the risk, unless you would rather have a dog with cropped ears...most vets won't do it at that age, anyway...50 percent of vets here won't even see a pitbull :(

You have found a best friend, you rescued him and gave him a loving home..why would you want to crop his ears ? It's painful, expensive, and unnecessary. Love him for the way he is now...
