I'm 15 right now. I have been both grounded and "spanked". Speaking only from personal experience, I'd say physical punishment works better if used in moderation. If you really want to ground your 11 yr. old, ground her for a week, also revoke all privileges

Not at all, when I was 15 in November 2004, I was invited over by my friend who was 11 1/2 and she had another friend in the house at the time and the parents weren't at home and everything worked out fine.

I don't think you should ground her. Instead, you should revoke her right to have friends over for awhile. I say at least three weeks. Anything longer than that is too much for an 11 yo

Well you would want to set a precident in the idea that she's 11 right? Screw mom now & wow watch out!!
But
it was only a friend, so maybe just not allow her to go to the next "big" event? Or just 2-3 days.

About 4 or 5 days, but make it over a weekend and stick to it.

actually, the time doesnt really matter, and i wouldn't go with more than 4 days. the point of punishing is to get the point across that they did something wrong and so they won't do it again. I would just take away something she loves, like the computer, ipod, tv, xbox, etc.
