My calico female cat prances in place with just her front paws for awhile before she decides to laydown. This has just started a few months ago & she will be 7 years old this July. She keeps her claws well trimmed with all of the scratching devices we have for her & if one of those claws are a little out of hand in length, I do trim it.

My cat does that, especially when he's happy. There's nothing wrong with it. As for the claw you are concerned about, you can certainly trim it. Just be careful. Cats, like dogs, have nerves in their nails (unlike humans) and trimming it too short can be very painful for her. You can probably take her to a groomer or vet and they can make sure that it is done properly. I love my happy prancing kitty!

That's not a problem! You have a happy, contented cat. She is just getting herself ready for bed, I have a cat that turns around and around like a dog does before he lays down.

Cats sometimes do that. They are kinda "making their nest" to lay down. Dogs do the same thing by sorta walking around in tight little circles to make a place to lie down. It's an instinctive mannerism.

I think what you're talking about is "kneading". It kind of looks like marching in place. Cats sometimes do this when they're content. It's instinctive to when their mothers nurse them. They would make the same motion on her belly to increase the flow of milk. Perfectly normal.

She is just kneading, trying to "fluff" the spot she wants to lay in. Even though she's not "old" I've noticed that my cats do it more as they get older, not so much when they are young. So, she's not sharpening, she's just getting comfortable and it's perfectly normal.

I have a calico who does this, too. I didn't get what she was doing until it was explained to me that this means she is content. They call it kneading, and my cat purrs while she does it.

It's really not a problem for your cat. But has it become a problem for you? All it means is you have provided a safe and content home for your cat. Congrats..... your cat really loves you!!!!!!

Its completely normal. My cat does it all the time, especially if she crawls up on my chest to nap.
