Or is it soft and hard atheism? I can't quite remember the two classifications, but I've only a vague understanding of the differences. Can someone save me a trip to Wikipedia and explain?

Strong atheism - a belief that no divine being(s) exist.
Weak atheism - a lack of belief in divine being(s).

Weak atheism is a lack of belief in deities.
Strong atheism is a belief that there are, in fact, no deities.
The difference is minute and really just points out the person's approach to atheism. Weak atheism is a shade closer to agnosticism.

It's strong and weak atheism, and the answer to your question is that a strong atheist is someone who knows that there is no super human being out there looking over us and a weak atheist is someone who is open-minded about all religon, kind of like an agnostic person.

Anyways, strong atheism is, simply, strongly stating that "there is no god" or "god is dead" that sort of stuff. weak atheism is synonymous with agnosticism, to a degree, or any other sort of non-belief in god.

Strong or positive atheists maintain that G/god(s) do not exist.
Weak or negative atheists believe that the existence of G/god(s) can not be or is not proven, but they choose not to worship.

i dont believe there is soft/hard atheism
they either believe in some form of deity or they dont
an atheist is an atheist
what i do believe though is some are more open to accepting evidence if it comes along ... whereas some would say black is white
these people are in religious faiths also though
