I am wanting to get braces soon, I am learning all I can about them first. My question is after the braces come off you have to wear a retainer....do you have to wear a retainer for the rest of your life or just a few years or something?

yes, you do have to wear a retainer. it depends on your teeth. some people only wear them for a few years and others wear them for life. braces do not hurt when you first get them on but the next day, it will feel like someone hit you in the teeth with a baseball. you will have this feeling until about the end of the week. when you go to get them tightened, it will hurt like this but for less time. maybe for 2 or 3 days. during these dreaded days of pain, you should take Advil or Tylenol and stick to soft foods that require little to no chewing. here is a link to foods that are ok to eat.

Usually, you only have to wear a retainer for a short time after having the braces removed. Personally, I have permanent retainers across my bottom and top front teeth that are glued to the back. They can't be seen from the front and can be removed should I ever have a problem with them. Also, I had to wear a clear retainer for about a year after my braces came off. After that year, I only had to wear at night. I'm supposed to still be wearing it at night, but I don't.

I was 17 when I got my fixed braces top and bottom. I felt too old and embarrassed but I was so paranoid about my smile. I had retainers fitted to back of my teeth once braces were removed a year later. I cant take them out unless i get dentist to but it doesnt bother me. My dentist said he would take them off years but I said i cant even tell they are tgere so he sad they r no harm in staying then. 5 years later i still have lovely straight teeth and retainers i dont even notice! Get them done, u won't regret!

when you get your braces off you might get two kinds of retainers. one will go on your top teeth and only have to be there a little while. and then the bottom one can stay your whole life or come off after two or so years. i hope that anwsers your question.

no,it's depends what the doctor says to you...how long you can wear the retainer-not more than 1 year.

depends on your teeth,

retainers are there to make sure your teeth dont move or space apart after you have just removed your braces

It's different from person to person. It might be every other day, or every night. Only your dentist or orthodontist can tell you for sure, after you get your braces off, of course.

first of all relax. lots of the questions you requested won't be able to be wisely replied with the help of each physique right here. the only guy or woman who can is your orthodontist. each physique is different and one orthodontist might do and use different kit than yet another. don't be afraid to ask him/her questions. its your mouth in spite of everything. i'm going to attempt and answer what i will. powerchains will pull all your teeth mutually so there is not any spacing between your teeth. they're used on the right and the backside teeth anyplace needed. you will might desire to % purely one colour. the colour it is placed on each guy or woman bracket is used to hold the cord it is placed on your teeth. those straighten your teeth out. with out the cord, your teeth won't flow. with those, you may % quite a number of hues.

Darlene, they usually recommend at least a year but who does? Wear them at night or when your friends are not around. They do work and are important but you do not need them 24/7
