This just came to me, and I am not sure where to post this. But, given I mainly answer in this section, I am interested what others in this section think.

I just answered a question. By the time I answered, my answer was placed on the second page of answers. Do you read all the answers you receive to a question? The reason I am asking is, I wonder if there is any correlation between how close your answer is to the first answers and whether or not your answer gets picked as best answer. When I saw how many answers were before mine, and even though I felt my answer was a very good one, I figured being so far down the list, it likely will not get picked.

I wonder if there is any truth to that? Why this thought popped into my head, who knows.

Good question! I believe if the person asked a thoughtful question they are interested in the answers. If they are silly, probably not. Go back to the questions you have asked and look for the ones in voting. I think the thoughtful people choose the best answer, the rest forget about them.

depends on how is asking the question. if it just a kid or an adult playing around, they are gonna choose the first lame answer they see.

if it was a serious question, the person will read them all, then choose.

I've been in your shoes before and similar situations and figured they wouldn't understand my answer for the best or would just take a shorter version from another. but I hold a constant 14% best answer so that tells me logic is still out in the world.....somewhere.

I read all the answers that are listed under the questions I ask, and I read over some answers to the question I'm responding to.

A good and honest answer will always be picked first....Those answers always stand out from the others.
