One of two reasons. Insecurity, where they can't admit they don't know something. Or arrogance,self-absorption, narccicism (sic?) ----too wrapped up in themselves so that no one and certainly no one else's opinion has any value.

But seriously, some folks just like to show off, others enjoy engaging in stimulating discussions, still others have a deep-seated need to be "right" all the time... there are as many reasons as there are people, I suppose.

Probably one of those ego things. You know anything to boost the ego. Now if they were really as smart as they claim to be they wouldn't have to play a game like that.

because they are insecure... it's an outwardly (illogical) ploy,, but it makes them feel better about themselves by arguing with people who may be more intelligent than them
