I wouldn't get him laser neutered. I have seen multiple dogs that have had severe complications from botched laser neutering (usually from a vet wanting to try out their new toy). Neuters are a very quick and relatively painful procedure. There is almost no blood loss, so the laser is really pointless. I do not think that laser neuters heal faster than the conventional neuters either. I would just take money that you would of spent on the laser procedure and get him some new toys for when he gets to feeling better.

How reputable is your vet, and how long has he been doing laser surgery? Those should be your first questions. I agree lasering has less bleeding and a quicker recovery time, but if your vet is just trying out a new technique there could be problems.
Nuetering the traditonal way is a simple procedure, we don't even stich anymore, we use an adhesive. Its very simple; cut, pull, snip, glue. Bam you're done. The recovery time is minimal for both procedure.

Nope no reason no to have done with laser.
I have had a neuter and one bladder surgery and two spays done with the laser and it is GREAT.
There are not stiches on the outside and dog does not have to go back to vet.
It is easier cleaner and faster healing.
My vet has used one for quite a few years now and I would take the laser over the old procedure any day.

Laser Surgery is supposed to be less painful, quicker recovery time, less chance of infection and no stitches to worry about your dog chewing at. Laser surgery costs alittle more, so really it is up to you if you want to do it or not. Our one dog had the stitches and the other had the Laser Surgery. The only differences that I really saw was that the one that had the Laser healed quicker and did not mess with the incision like my other dog did that had the stitches put in.

I agree with the other persons answer... I've had my dogs neutered and they never suffered any discomfort they wouldn't also have had with the laser surgery. My vet also used dissolving stitches which are great as they dissapear as the wound heals, and removing stitches can often be the most painful part of post-op. Check your vet's price-list... you might find out why they're suggesting laser instead of scalpel. Sorry to be a cynic.

I have a couple of friends who have had their dogs neutered with laser surgery. They were both very pleased with the results, there was less pain, no bleeding and the dogs recovered more quickly. If I had the option, I would use it too.

Actually it is a new way to neuter male dogs. It is supposed to be very safe and offers the dog a quicker recovery time. If I was to neuter again I would do it with the laser.
Less recovery time, less pain for the dog.

I don't think it's really necessary. Neutering is a fairly simple surgery. My vet used dissolving stitches so I never had to have them removed. Neither of my male dogs seemed to suffer from any discomfort after the first day. And they certainly never bled.
I hate to say it, but I have to wonder if your vet is taking you for a ride. But thanks for making the right decision to neuter your pet!
