General Douglas MacArthur served in the US Army from May 1903 until April 1951, a period of 48 years.

General Omar Bradley served in the US Army from May 1915 until August 1953, a period of 42 years.

General Dwight Eisenhower served in the US Army from May 1915 (graduating in the same class as Bradley - this class was called "The Class the Stars Fell On" because of the number of general officers that came out of it) until May 1952, a period of 41 years.

Looks like MacArthur is it.

George Marshall served from 1901-1945. That's a whole long hunk of time. There is a regulation that any General of the Army, a 5 star general, serves for life. Whether this is a practical use answer for your question, I'm not sure. But 44 years is a long time to serve.

Pershing may have the record as he lived until he was 88, 56 years after he left West Point.
