I've been reading up on the differences. What I'm really wondering is if someone off the street with no jeweling experience can tell the difference between a diamond and moissanite?? such as color, clarity, etc.

It's my idea...so please no answers of it being "fake" or "cheap" cause I don't really care about that.

This is the deal.
Yes, people can tell and I'll tell you why.
Faux jewelry normally has big and perfectly clear stones. Only Jenniffer Lopez and Princess Diana can afford a ring like that if it was a real diamond.
A vsi flawless colorless diamond cost A TON. A one carat diamond as described would cost about $25000. and then don't sell those at Walmart.
Engagement rings that are reasonably priced (about $5000) have diamonds that have a little color and some perceptible flaws.
So, if you are going to show off a clear stone and, if people know that you cannot really afford a 25thousand dollar ring, they will inmediatley know that is bling and not the real thing.
So, if you are going for faux, try to buy something not too flashy and not to big, because people WILL know.
Trust me. They will stick their noses in your ring to make sure.
Good luck

No, no one 'on the street' without knowledge and/or a jewellers loupe will know that you're not wearing a real diamond. Only you'll know. HOWEVER, it is impossible to produce a pure white moissanite. The stones have a quality known as “fluorescence” that causes them to appear slightly green or gray. This effect is much greater under natural light. In a jewelry store a moissanite dealer will always show the stones under a pink tinged light, as this tends to cancel out the fluorescence. Many people say they love their moissanite stone until they get it into the sunlight. So if it's a clear white stone you want, avoid moissanite.
My suggestion if you can't afford a real diamond, buy a sapphire. They're the only other gemstone quality crystal, they come in 3 beautiful color sets (blue, pink and yellow) and they are about half the price of a diamond. Since Moissanite is over $500 per carat, you might as well get something that isnt synthetic.

Yes blunt is right... what gives most faux diamonds away is the size! Even a carat is a good sized stone.. I would keep a solitaire to a half carat or less or the total carat weight of a multi-stone ring under a carat if you want people to believe it is real. Also make sure that the setting itself is solid white or yellow gold or platinum, not silver or rhodium or gold plated. Cheap settings are another giveaway!
