wanted to ask something, but have been enbarrased to ask it, in fear that will be looked upon as a stupid question...and therefore hope someone else asks it at some point?

It depends on what you wanna ask. If you want to know more about the facts of you study, you should never be too shy to ask. Ask as much as you want to know. The more, the better.
In order to gather knowledge, no question ever is stupid!
But if you want to ask a guy to go out with you, that's something different. If you wanna date him, you wouldn't be happy if someone else asked him. :-))
