they are put into scalding tanks, often still alive, that take the feathers off. The birds are "spun" on a machine that holds them upside down, and two blades come in and slit their throat. Often, the blades miss, and they go into the scalding tank still alive. Here is a link with more info

While partly true, mass produced poultry is water cleaned, but kosher chicken are still cleaned by using a torch and blade, burning the pin feathers off, then salted like other kosher meats to allow the blood and bodily fluid to drain off.
Years ago they used to use wax or freeze them, now a days they used the hot water method as it is quicker and cleaner, plus it save them having to reclean them after iveseration.
I was a chef in Canada for 20 yrs and had to walk by a kosher poultry plant everyday, saw they going into the cutter.

They dip the (dead, of course) chickens in scalding water and their pores open up easier and the feathers come right out when they pull them.

I *know* I don't want to know... the poor things. Have you read about how they cut their beaks off and keep them in the dark most of the time. Please, if you're going to eat meat, go with organic, free range animals.
