Okay, I have a major alcohol problem. Around 11 last night, I called my friend to pick me up from the club. I was too drunk to drive. Anyway, he said we were going to Las Vegas and to get comfortable. I crashed in the backseat. Him and our other friend, Ryan, were in the front. I woke up just after 2 and realized we were parked somewhere. The guys weren’t in the car. I looked around and didn’t recognize where I was. I was still drunk, stumbled out of the car, and walked about 100 feet to where an old building was (I could see a light inside). Within a couple minutes I realized my friends were robbing this building. I started to freak on them, yelling about what they could be doing. Next thing you know the cops arrive. My friend was back in the car by this time, so he couldn’t run, but Ryan and I took off. I tripped, bruised my leg, and got a slight cut on my head while being arrested. I have never been in trouble and am not sure what got into my friends.

My words were slurred enough that the cops didn’t try to question me for too long - also, I refused to talk. Even this morning when in court and upon being woke up, I still wouldn’t talk. What can I do? I’m totally screwed(?) and don’t know what’s going on. Why were they being so dumb!? : (

Generally, when you get arrested for intoxication, you get out when you have sobered up. The worst part is, I'm feeling guilty for not talking. I am actually known in the community -(I know, here comes the hypocrite)- for my work with the local police department and PAYADA (Parents And Youth Against Drug Abuse). I had a quick arraignment hearing this morning, the plea of not guilty was entered, and I was bailed out.

The friend I mentioned is still in jail and as far as I know, they never caught Ryan. My police friend has been calling, and I heard he stopped by my house looking for me, after I got out - I know I should confide in him, but I am disappointed in myself - for all of it. I wish, I just, I guess I want to talk to Jeff (the friend) and find out what the hell was going on.

I am amazed at some of the answers I am getting. I am a good person - I volunteer, I mentor, I go to school, I work full time- my only real major fault is that i like to overindulge in alcohol when other commitments are taken care of.

My friend was not a bad person or a criminal for the past 4 years while we hung out. Something happened with him, be it Ryan, or what, I don't know.. (yet) but why so judgmental by everyone??

No matter what you intent was you are a part of the robbery because you were with the two gentleman who did it. It's guilt by association. It doesn't matter that you are involved in a lot of positive things in the community because a lot of community members like you commit crimes. Keeping your mouth shut about the other person who committed the crime makes you a big part of the problem. All you can do is tell the truth, tell why you were there, what you saw, and who you know is involved. Because all you have on your side is the truth. Whether or not you were part of the problem in this scenario will not matter to the police or the judge. And covering for a criminal who got away doesn't show much on who you are as a person.

The only person you should be talking to or through is an attorney.
Edit: No judgment is implied, no "legal" evaluation is implied. Ultimately, you make the choices and live with the consequences.

I think you should get a lawyer. You could say you didn't know anything about the robbery but it's your word against your friends and I don't think they will vouch for you.

stupidity and too much drinking is what caused this scenario....the fact that you ran just made you look more guilty....once you buzz ...go home and call it a night....that's what i would do.....think before you start on your first one...good luck
