As a personal trainer, weight management consultant, and group exercise instructor, I am amazed how often people ask the very same question you do. It's not really a complicated process. It simply requires a little work and lots of discipline.
First,in order to lose weight you have to be using more energy than you take in. So eat a little less work out a little more. That said you never want to take an extreme position on either one of those. Starve yourself and your metabolic rate will drop thus favoring fat storage. Exercise too much and you risk energy, burnout, or in some cases illness. Moderation is the key.
As far as eating try to reduce no more than 250-500calories per day from your current diet. Those 250-500 can be lost from cutting out sodas, reducing sweets and other junk, and eliminating alcohol.
Exercise no more than 1 hr and 15 minutes per day. If you are just beginning do not even attempt this much. If that is the case try 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise(running, walking, swimming, cycling, etc.)Also studies have proven that strenght training will accelerate fat loss. You may need to contact a fitness professional in your area for specific instructions for your personal fitness level. Always remember progression is the key. Add a few more minutes to your workout weekly and let one hour most days of the week be your goal and you'll be on your way.
Please remember abdominal fat can be stubborn to lose. Also the slower it comes off the more permanant it will be.
Again for more help contact your local gym or rec center to find a CERTIFIED personal trainer. There are SO many idiots out there.

cardio cardio cardio cardio!!!! Do not stop eating . . . this will just create more pudge when you eat something!!! Min. 2 hrs heavy cardio a day and you'll see a difference in about 2 weeks. Crunches won't work until you get the extra fat off the surface and then you can start building muscle.

I suggest laying off the greasy foods, sugars, and beer, adding cardio and hi-lo crunches to your workout. It worked miracles for my pudge. Good luck.
