I'm staying in a hotel, long-term due to some house damage brought on by a deep freeze in the Midwest.. The stay so far has been about 6 weeks.
Actually 2 questions;
1 - Is it customary to tip hotel maids?
2- How does one determine the tip?

2 depends on how much the hotel is. but i usuall ydo about 10% so if it is $50 a night then i would leave a $5 tip. 100/$10 tip so on so forth.

it also depends on how good of a job they do.

$5 a night!? Wow, I've never tipped that much.

Personally, I leave $2 a night. Hotel maids get paid a lot more per hour than most waiters/waitresses, so I have no problem tipping them less.

For a long term unexpected stay $2 per night is more than sufficient. For vacations or holidays, up to 10% is good.

Yes, you should always tip the housekeeper.

$2 per night; $3-$4 per night at higher-end hotels.

$5 a night for normal stays.

In your case since it has been so long I would do $50-$100.
