If your bird has molted recently he more than likely lost his tail feathers. Look at his short feathers. Are there new ones? My parakeet lost his tail feather as well. He was only left with one long one. My parakeet is 10 months old so about the same age as yours.

If your bird was plucking he would sit in one spot and pull out many feathers and they would be left there on the floor of the cage.

With molting as you probably know, feathers are everywhere. The bird moves and feathers fly.

I do not think your bird has anything serious besides that it is just molting for the first time.

Uh... If he's molting, then his feathers are falling out. Every feather on a bird will be shed, including the long tail feathers. It happens. There are long feathers and short feathers on a parakeet's tail. The longest two must've been shed. Give them a week or two and they'll be back. There's nothing to worry about, it's completely natural.

Most likely the bird is fine, if he acts fine.
If he moulted the long tail feathers all at once, it would take a while for them to grow back. That's all.
Once my daughter accidentally stepped on our cockatiel's tail, and all the tail feathers fell out! We were so grateful that was the only damage, though. [This is an example of a bird moulting because of fright; it is a survival mechanism.] The feathers started regrowing within a few days.

Yes, it is normal. When birds molt they go through a process of losing all their feathers (not at the same time!). They molt their tail feathers too. So often they have short tails, but they'll grow back.

However, if his cage is too small for example, he may rub his feathers off that way (by them hitting the bars too much). The bigger the cage the better!

It is unusuall that all of the tail feathers would have come out at the same time. Maybe the tail feathers got pulled or got caught in the bars and he lost them?

He is a baby or at least young, it could be diet, the size of his cage { they need a cage large enough to spread his wings and not touch the bars}, they need 2 or 3 baths a week, if he was plucking you would see feathers on the bottom of the cage. Their are many good books on healthy birds, check your local pet store.

Well maybe u should take him to the vet to find out what's wrong.... IF THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG!

Or maybe his feathers are just falling out? (you should be able to see them in his cage though...)
But really, u should just take him to the vet for a check-up

Take him to the vet. He might be plucking.
Even if its nothing serious you should have a vet check him.
