'Enlightenment' is unattainable, overrated, and a distraction from real life and the things that really matter.
Thoughts on this, anyone? I'm looking for some really cynical answers. Sock it to me, people!

Sorry, but you won't get a cynical answer from me. Spirituality -- that is, a relationsip with God through Jesus Christ -- is hardly a distraction from real life. It gives you a deeper understanding of what is and is not important.
Again, knowing God by accepting Christ as your Lord and Savior is both attainable and vastly UNDER-rated by most people. Simply asking Him to forgive your sins and accept you as His couldn't be easier, but there are those who don't value His atoning death on the Cross at all -- let alone as much as they should.
And as far as I'm concerned, spirituality is the only thing that matters because it is the only thing that is eternal. The things of this world will decay and disappear, but friendship with God is for this world and the next.

Enlightenment is not a thing to hold but a way of life.
What is a more enlightened outlook on life?
1. Not caring about anything, drudging along, being depressed or angry, hating yourself.
or
2. Being positive, helping others, being happy, thinking intelligently, contemplating life's wonders, striving to be more perfect, wanting to bring joy to others, being compassionate, understanding, gaining in wisdom and virtue.
Starting to see the big picture yet?

Okay,for one would you love to spend the rest of your life in prison without the possibility of parole? No? Well, that is straining at a gnat and swallowing a camel. Because compared to eternity in eternal torment,Prison is nothing. Because you may only spend 80yrs. Max. in there and then you get to die and get the hell out of there, But if you wind up in hell there's no escape,No dying anymore,No way out from then on. Sound exciting? Some people need hope that there is more then this life at work, that there is actually a purpose for them being alive.
