You need to stop. What's happening is that your cells aren't getting enough oxygen so they're creating a poison called lactic acid to try to keep making energy. Making energy with oxygen just creates carbon dioxcide that you breath out, but without oxygen it's less efficient and the lactic acid is stored in your muscles until they get enough oxygen to eliminate their oxygen debt.

You need to rest when that happens. Take a break and some very deep breaths. Water will help, too.

Are you stretching out before you run? That's a very important thing to do each time you get ready to run. A cool down is important when finishing a run also. Personally, I tryed running & it was really bad on my knee joints, so my doctor told me to stop, & walk briskly each day. It works for me & no more painful knee joints.

Maybe too much blood if your running a lot. It happens to me running up and down hills for long periods. My calves get huge and feel like their going to explode.

shin splints!!

Strech a LOT, and if they still kill you--you are going to have to go to a physiotherapist. I had them--it took me 3 treatments tops to fix.
