I am not sure which culture it comes from however, I thought it is a name with middle-eastern decent.

I'm Persian and it means qualities; icons; character sketch in Farsi.
I know it is plural but I don't think they use it as a name. Maybe it is in another language.
Kind of like Josh. In Farsi Josh means "its place".
So could you please specify what culture the name comes from?

The Arabs are the descendants of Ishmael a son of Abraham.It could be an offshoot of that name and derive from the middle east.
