My husband is thinking about joining the Army Reserves. What should I expect?

I don't know ANYTHING about the military, so I don't know what to expect. Is he going to be gone for months or years at a time? What will he be doing? I'm just worried that it's too dangerous and that I will never see him. Someone PLEASE tell me what you know about this. I'm stressing out because I really don't want him to join.

Wow talk about negative answers. This war and deployment efforts have the people thinking that anyone and everyone is going to be gone for months on end and never come home!!! He will have to go away to basic training and also to his AT (school for the job he choses). If the unit he joins is already deployed, the chances are slim to none that he will have to join the unit. Don't get me wrong tho...he could get called up at anytime. Not necessarily for war though. National guard and reservists help people here in the US when they are in need as well..such as during severe snowstorms, floods, hurricaines, etc.
Everyone forgets that most of the time national guard and reservists are rarely deployed overseas. Its only in war time do they generally go overseas. But on that note...they too are soldiers and are expected to be called upon when the US is in need...just like active duty soldiers.
With the democrats winning the vote about the troops coming home no later then mid to late 2008...that should ease your mind some.
My first husband was active duty Army. I never seen him. My current hubby was active duty when I met him and has been in natioal gaurd ever since. That's going on 5 years in May. He has yet to be deployed.

Most people dont understand that dont send just anybody, the armed services is a serious business, your defending the country. As with all the benefits and decent pay he will recieve, he was also get valueable training and maybe some needed guidance. They take good care of him and they will also take good care of you. You and him will become part of large family who cares for each other. What to expect is a brave man, trying to be a good citizen. People can say what they will but there is no greater call.
