Depending on the amount that you are cooking. Find out for how many people you are cooking. For a women you cater 250gr per person and for males 300gr per person of stake.
Add the price of your ingrediants, eg mushrooms, onions etc.
Say you come to a total of 20 dollars. Them you charge 20dollars for goods and 20 dollars for you work, Total cost thus 40 dollars. A price is usualy balances on a 50% material cost and 50% labour cost.
Hope you come right with your pricing. Remember if you owe a restaurant or coffee shop the pricing system is diferent. Your have to add aditional costs for your running expenses.

Real beef stroganoff is made with beef tenderloin (a.k.a. filet mignon), not chuck.
I would charge them the cost of all the ingredients plus $20 for my time. Maybe $75 to feed four people.

A friend of mine who works in a restaurant told me that they charge 3x as much as the item costs raw. So, if they buy their steaks for $10, they charge $30 because there are other costs involved like labor, other ingredients and so on. They also want to make a profit.
If you want to cater for someone, I'd consider using a ratio like that. If it's just cooking dinner for a friend, then I'd say charge considerably less.

Have them provide the funding for it. Ask for 50 bucks and give them what's left over after you've bought all the ingredients. Invite them to the cooking. They will learn how to do it themselves and it's a great way to have fun with a friend.

consider how many mouths it'll feed and figure $4 a serving if doing it for catering or fundraising purposes...if someone just loves your cooking...dont charge em-consider the fact that you are blessing them with a good meal that they appreciate so that when talk around town is who the best chef/caterer is they can recommend you from personal experience and talk you up so you can charge up to $7 a plate!

assuming you are doing one big pot and not charging per person...charge the price of the ingredients plus what you feel you deserve for making it. After all if they were able to they would have cooked it them selves.
