I saw a video of one learning to fly. Like most birds, they flap their wings again and again, getting a feel for how it works to lift off the perch. Having figured this out, they flutter a few feet to a nearby spot. They keep working on this until they can go farther. The parents keep feeding them while they are learning to fly, and maybe afterward for a while, since catching prey is a challenging skill. Birds often leave the nest before they are skilled fliers, and their parents still feed them.
