I have a 5 year old female miniature schnauzer that weighs just under 5 lbs. When I brought the cat into the household he started suckling on the dog. He was 6-8 weeks old when I got him, and started nursing on the dog from day one. It was weird and cute at the same time when he was younger, but now he has gotten bigger than the schnauzer. The cat won't stop nursing on the dog no matter how many times I get on to the sickos. I don't want to put the thought into the dog's mind that nursing is bad, in case she has some pups of her own. The schnauzer has not been in heat since the whole thing began around 8 or 9 months ago, and I think she just likes being a mom. I want to breed the schnauzer and haven't found a way to keep the two from going at it. The dog just walks up and puts it in his face. I have thought about getting one of those dog sweaters to cover up her nipples, but I can't help but think that there is something else I can do to "wean" the cat. Please help.

That's just awesome, I'll take the dog and the cat! I was a nursing mom, and it was a lot better than the teenager that talks back at me now, so I guess I can relate to the dog. Before you solve the problem, video record it, send it to America's funniest home videos or something, and hopefully make some money. Seriously, I wouldn't want to fix something that spectacular! But if it helps we got a kitten that was weened to early ( or maybe he's just a bit slow ) who used to constantly try to nurse from me, I lost count of how many nights I would have to get out of bed at two am to trim his nails. It didn't matter how tight I held the covers around my neck either, he'd sneak up from the bottom of the bed under the blankets, weirdest thing, eventually I just ignored it, sitting there on the PC, cat in my lap going to town, he out grew it eventually, at least 98% of the way. We didn't have a dog at the time, that probably would have saved me a lot of sleep. ( He didn't outgrow it completely till about the age of two years)

Bleah........
OK the only safe way to do this that I can think of is to coat the dog's nipples with Vaseline. The cat will be repulsed by the taste and the smell. It will wean the cat.
Or......everytime they go to nurse (man this is just twisted OK...you really need to post some photos somewhere) keep a spray bottle of ice water in the fridge. Take it out and squirt them both in the face. No harm but they get the idea.
What else goes on in your house?????? I think the entire Yahoo Answers community would be interested in a very sick manner.

Why do you want to correct this? The dog is obviously going to be a good Mommy, and she has adopted your kitten. She considers the kitten her baby. She will stop when she feels like she needs to, or when she births her own babies. The little babies will be the ones that need her then, not the kitty. Just don't worry about it. It's not hurting either one, I don't know why it bothers you so much. It shows your cat and dog have a very caring bond.

I thought I was the only one with weird animals. My cats nurse on my dog (who has never been prego) and she had milk in her breasts from it.
I put vaseline on her nipples and all around, that seemed to help and watching them making sure they didn't try and then saying "no" while shaking a wal-mart bag. It took over 2 months to train them not to do it.
She's good now, no more nursing.

Easy, rub some cayenne or something nasty tasting on the nips. Yes, you'll have to deal with doggie maybe not liking licking it too, but it's just temporary if it works!

apply sour tasted products on the dog's nipples for few days, whenever the cat is on the mood to suck....

Maybe you should just separate them. Take them outside at separate times and let them out to play at separate times.
