Oxycodone is the generic for Oxycontin. They make them now that when you put water on them they dissolve some, when U heat them now they gel up. If U want more contact me. I've been taking them for 4 years,(240mg a day) morphine before that. Hope this clears up everything else that you got.

Whatever you are thinking, DON'T!
Yes, Oxycodone HCl is the active ingredient in Oxycontin. While the active ingredient is water-soluable, the formulation in the -Contin pill is designed for slow release. The pills have all sorts of non-soluable binders. Don't try putting this in a syringe! You will end up with a thrombosis which can embolize.

Just read some of the other posts. Oxycodone is NOT Vicodin. That is Hydrocodone, which is similar, but not the same.
The only active in OxyContin (this is the correct spelling) is Oxycodone HCl. It is not something to mess around with!
If you must, just swallow it, don't sufflate (snort) or inject it. It is very unsafe!

Not the same thing;
oxycodone is a addictive opioid analgesic medication also known as Percocet, Endocet, Roxicet, Tylox

and oxycontin is an is an agonist opioid, highly addictive, also known as lortab or vicodin.

They are both serious pain killers, but I believe oxycontin is stronger and much more addictive. I don't know about being water soluable.

No, they are not the same thing. Oxycodone is Vicodin and not as strong as Oxicontin.
