I was listening to music wearing headphones once, and someone knocked at the door. Somehow my dog figured out I couldn't hear it, and came and pushed at my leg to get my attention, then did the classic Lassie 'follow me' and led me to the front door. I hadn't trained him to do anything like that and was really impressed, thats pretty smart for a dog to figure out.

Many are impressed that my dog rings the
bells on the door to let us know he has to go out.

I think the smartest thing he does is that he is able
to remember where he left a certain toy when I has him
to go and get it. For example . . he will be wanting to play
and I will tell him "Finnegan, where is your ball? Go get your
ball", and he will remember that it is downstairs under the
shoe rack, or whatever.

I adopted a 1 year old pit bull who came to me NOT house broken, did not know any basic commands (she didn't even know sit), and she did not know how to walk on a leash. I thought I was going to spend months working with her. After 2 weeks she was house trained, trained to heal while walking, learned sit, down, shake, and STAY! I was amazed! And even if I have a piece of juicy chicken in my hand, I can go Very far away from her, and when I tell her to stay, she will stay for EVER until I tell her okay. She is very smart, she caught on very quickly, I was absolutely amazed.

I have a 3 year old male chihuahua, named Bandit. When you tell him to give you a hug, he jumps on your lap, puts one hand on each shoulder, while facing you, turns his head to the side, puts his head on your face, or on the side of your face and leans into you, and gives you a squeeze. He started doing that on his own, since he was a puppy. He's such a little sweetie!

Both my dogs can open doors by pulling down the handle and pushing..One of them can even pull down the handle and then pull the door in.

My oldest dog Coco...chocolate lab loves coca-cola.So when we are drinking it he will go get his bowl and bring it to us so we will give him some.He also knows how to play dead when you point your finger at him and say bang!He will fall over on his side and play dead.He knows his toys..tell him ball--he brings the ball..bear---he brings the bear..ect.

Then there's Sis....my Black lab and she can open the doors and fence gate. If one of the dogs is out and they want in she will go to door and let them in.

He rattles the door handle when he wants to go out, he butts it with his head...funny thing is we really didn't teach him that he just started doing it one day.

The other thing he can go is "whisper" if you tell him "shhh, quiet" and out your finger to your lips he will actually lower his voice tone, that one took some doing.

My one year old Chihuahua basically plays soccer with her favorite tennis ball. =)
And when we see she has nothing to do, we'll ask her to go get a toy and she'll go and grab something. It's really adorable.
