If your gym is a 24 hour gym, try going at different times. I personally like going around 10pm because there are not many people there and I am more of a night person. Some people I know are more morning people and go before work. Just try going for a couple weeks at different times and see when you are the most motivated. That is the first step. If you think you know someone who is very into going to the gym, then go with them because they can be motivation for you to go. Upbeat music is always a good thing because it keeps you going while you are there so you don't get bored and not go back the next day. Hope this helps.

Join a class that they have there. Helps a lot to vary your routine.
I also found that I lacked the motivation to go to the gym since it involved so much stuff (packing my gear, driving there, etc.). I switched to Walk Away the Pounds and Denise Austin tapes. The main reason why I suddenly stopped going to the gym was that they dropped the temp. of the pool 3 degrees. That totally caused me problems for my arthritis. Since I chose that place due to the pool, and now couldn't use it, motivation to go just disappeared.
What I discovered was also that I preferred different equipment. I WANTED a walking machine where I could vary the techniques, not a tilted ramp that caused my ankle problems. A gym that provides that offers a limited access pass (2x week) which lets me still do the machines that I want to, but not so expensive that if I skipped it, it would feel like wasted money.

Set aside a scheduled time when you can go to the gym. It's going to take time before you get use to it. Also, set fitness goals so you know what kind of exercising you need to do. If you have to cut exercise time because of a hectic schedule, try to walk more and talk the stairs to get some cardio into your schedule. Maybe set some time aside for taking walks so when you go to the gym, you don't have to be their as long.

See if your gym offers free classes to mix up your exercise routine. Nothing is more frustrating than an exercise rut. Try yoga or dancing. Both of which have great aerobic, metabolic benefits.
