I highly recommend Pedigree, both the dry and wet. None of theirs has been involved in the recall, and it's a good quality food.
Yes, it's a bit more in cost, but not nearly as much as IAMS or Eukanuba (both of which are affected by this recall, btw). I've been using it for years now (dry only, tho), and have never had any trouble from it. All my animals are very healthy!!

Go to a large Pet Store and here are some commonly sold brands there which are not processed through Menu Foods:
Royal Canin, Nature's Recipe, Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance
There are some you can buy and have shipped to you like Paul Newman's Organic dog food
Or you can feed a raw diet where you select human grade foods and know exactly what is in your pet's diet:
http://www.rawdogranch.com
Or you can find on line sites with home cooking recipes designed to meet your dogs needs. It's important that the dogs get food that includes everything they need in it.
There's a lot to consider!
What makes me mad right now, is that according to recent news, menufoods knew about products making animals ill about a month before their recall.
They didn't know the specific contaminant, or so they say. Now they do and it was rat poison of a sort that isn't supposed to be used in the USA. Since it is not being investigated as a criminal case, seems to indicate the wheat was tainted, probably from using the rat poison to keep mice and rats out of the wheat. Don't know that for sure.

Well some dogs don't do well on the highest quality food. Or maybe she just wasn't doing well on the top quality food you gave her. And most dogs love to eat lower quality food because often it's sprayed with fat or something else that tastes nice to them. If you're on a budget, the best cheapest high quality food is Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul. It's about $1/lb. The next one down is the dog food from Costco (if you have a membership). It's the Kirkland brand food, it's very very decent. Not much fillers and mostly good stuff. It's about $0.50/lb. It's much better than some of the brands out there like Pedigree or Beneful, etc.

Purina One was not on the recall list. I use it for my cats and it's been great as far as grocery store brands go.
The main thing to look for when buying pet food is the first listed ingredients. Make sure it says, chicken, beef, lamb etc. and then brewer's rice or something like that. If the first ingredient is animal by-products or something else, it won't be very good. Also, be aware that the food that was tainted was wet food. Dry foods are still all right.
Purina One has a HUGE selection of dog foods with formulas for large breeds, seniors, total nutrition, sensitive systems, healthy weight and so on. They even have a line of treats and an organic line.
Pedigree is NOT a good food. Chicken is the 9th listed ingredient, so i would not recommend it.

If you mean supermarket by normal store, get Pedigree. I was feeding my dog Iams and switched to Pedigree several days ago and he seems to love it! Sure, some of the super premium foods are great but they are only available in pet supply stores and can be really costly. I checked Pedigree's website to be certain they are not part of the recall.

The dry dog foods are safe....but yuck. Not very tasty, I wouldn't imagine. My dog likes wet food. I am thinking of buying him dry and mixing in some small amounts of liquid and gravy and sauce from my own dinners to flavor it with. I don't know what a vet would say about how balanced that is, but until further notice that the wet foods are safe again, I think that is what I'm going to do. Most of the homemade dog food recipes are very "stew like", so I am making myself stew for dinner, and combining in some dry food a lot these days. And also Pedigree canned food has been determined to be safe, I am also feeding him that and he has not got sick from it, I don't think they used the suspicious gravy in question from Menu foods.

Only wet or "gravy" pet foods have been identified as the source of the rat poison which is killing the pets. Both dogs and cats are dying or losing the use of their kidneys due to rat poison in the wheat gluten contained in the pet food .
There are no reports of contaminated dry foods. To be safe you could always consider people foods which are also
healthy for pets.
Our firm represents hundres of mass tort plaintiff's throughout the U.S.. I hope your pet is safe.

BlueBuffalo has some really great dog and cat food that is all natural too! If your local store doesn't carry it - ask him to start because it really is good for your pets.

I feed my #5 Chihuahuas, "Royal Canin Dry Food. It's a high quality food, and a healthy one. You can't find high quality foods in a regular store. My vet is the one who told me to feed it to my dogs, so I took his advice, and my dogs love it. You can find it in most pet stores.
