They will grow up knowing how to be well socialized with other dogs, and the two will be the best of friends.

Sounds like a good plan.

Never get two pups at the same time. Unless you are a breeder or exhibitor with an intense back ground in dogs. I am a breeder and never ever put litter mates int he same home. If you have an older dog and a new puppy it would be different. You will also find it VERY rare for any reputable breeder to sell you two litter mates, and if they do I would have to question them being reputable. If you are going to get a dog the only place to go is a reputable breeder OR rescue. Neither will give you two pups at one time.

Two litter mates will play with each other and ignore you. Yes it can be done, but it a task that takes hard work. Double the Spays/neuter and it's about $300 here so it would be $600 and my dog food is about $50 a bag so two would be double, double the training classes also.

Maybe waiting till you are out of school would be a better idea, or if you are really intent on a dog then hire a dog walked it's cheaper then a second dog in the long run and you r dog will bond to you more.

Having two dogs can be a good thing, especially if they are siblings. If you get puppies that are not siblings, much depends on how and where from you get them. If you adopt from a shelter or buy from a breeder with both pups from the same owner, you can observe how they react together. If you buy two puppies from totally different places I would let the first pup get used to it's new home and owners, probably for at least three weeks. Then introduce the second one, making sure you pay attention to BOTH so one doesnt get left out. Most likely the first will assume he is the boss, and will try to obtain more attention from you so the other puppy has less. If the first is a submissive female and the second a dominant male (or female) the second will compete for the most attention. Just make sure both have the same amount of attention, one way to do this is if you pet one at a time, get the other pup to sit or move off the the side for a brief wait till his turn comes. That way he will learn to take turns. Also, buying non-dominant breeds (like golden retrievers or labs, poodles etc) or even mixed shelter breeds will prevent any fighting. Of course, if they are raised to have fun together from the start they shouldnt have any problem when over. Hope this helps!

First of all, I would highly reccomend golden retrievers. They are a very loving, caring dog. Like humans, they each have a personality, but it is never mean. For whatever breed you decide on, I would get the runt(s) of the litter. Getting two may be a good idea for company. The only thing is, it may be harder to train them. With runts, you usually get a more mellow dog. This is good, because they will not cause as much trouble. If you have not had a dog before, I would suggest one at a time. Also, with only one dog, they tend to get more attached to their owner. This is a good thing. Two puppies = twice the effort = twice the $. It really helps to socialize your puppy(ies). When you go on vacation, It will be easier to leave the dog with someone if you don't plan on taking them. This also helps reduce chances of aggression towards other dogs.

I think that raising the two puppies together is a great idea! Don't get 2 boys, they will be aggressive with eachother when they get older. Even after getting fixed. Having more than one does require a lot more patience...they do play a lot and they both will be jealous for attention. You should check your local shelter they always have puppies. Good luck

Hi.. My dog had a litter of 6! of course I couldnt keep them all but i kept one girl! Mother and daughter have been together for over 10yrs now.. They are inseperable! I think its a great idea... get the same sex if you can and the same breed! This avoids in my opinion agressive dog behavior in one breed vs. another!! I own two shih tzu's ... they are the cutest, most lovable dogs you could ever meet!! and they dont shed!!!! Good Luck!!

My aunt did this and now the dogs are inseperable its really fun watching them grow up together!Alot of times when one puppy is scared of something the other puppy will be to or when one barks the other one autamatically starts with it.It can sometimes be a hastle taking care of 2 puppies at once but you'll get the hang of it.good luck p.s. you wont regret it

I raised 2 akita females from the same litter. It was a lot more work, it seemed that they got in more trouble together than they did apart. But I wouldn't of traded it for a second. They were great buddies. However one of them got real sick and passed. When that happened the other dog got real depressed and wouldn't eat for a long time. She had a broken heart, so although its not a positive thing to think of, you have to think long term. It broke my heart even more to see her so sad....

I got 2 puppies at the same time... and they are best friends. I don't find them to be aggressive..I have two males. So I had to get them fixed so that they wouldn't become aggressive... They are really good together.
