This is a highly addictive drug, and even though you are taking a small dose, I would advise than when you are ready to stop it, you start by breaking it into halves, then fourths, then off of it...it stays in your system for about five days, and can cause seizures, in higher doses for a length of time...I would just take my time, and ween off of it..it is a great drug, but it does have it's downfall..even in a small dose, I can feel it when i take it for even one or two days...Good luck

I am not a psychiatrist/doctor so I suggest ask before you reduce it. I can say from personal experience when the doctors eliminated not reduced my xanax I had a grand-mal seizure. Also, from what the doctors told me yes it is addicting. So, maybe they took what I believe an unwise decision re: above reaction and took me off it entirely. Lorna

Yes you could..never stop taking it cold turkey, that should lessen the effect of you not taking it way better than stopping all at once...I don't know of to many medications for these problems that don't cause you to have withdrawls when you stop taking them..and xanex is habit forming and anything you can become addicted to will have you to have withdrawl symptoms..but it won't be bad as long as you take it responsible..If you need it take it.

Xanax is very addicting, but I don't think you would have a problem with only taking one at night, However, you can get get addicted to taking only that one at night so be careful.

I take the same amount each night to sleep, with no addictive or withdrawal symptoms if I don't take it.

That is such a small dosage you have no reason to worry.
