my dad has it and he has trouble walking without medication....anyone has stories about overcoming Pakinsons and its obsticles?

My dad also has parkinson's. He was doing reeeaaally bad there for a while & couldn't walk around without a walker or even go up & down the stairs. Once the doctor put him on like 3 different medications he got soooo much better....doesn't need the walker & is able to go downstairs whenever. I believe one of his meds is called Requip or something like that.

Unfortunately there is no way to overcome it without medication of any kind........it is a degenerative disease.

You need to take it one day at a time and make modifications as the disease progresses. Changing buttons to Velcro, talking with a Occupational therapist will give you ideas of things that you can purchase to help with every day task. Getting a shower chair for the bath tub so one can sit while bathing. Make sure there are no throw rugs around to trip on. Using chairs that are easy to get off, possible getting a lift chair. Keep moving as much as you can as long as you can. There are so many things that one can get to help keep functioning as independently as long as possible.
