omg im so glad u said that last part when i read thir ages i was like "why the heck does this lady wanna tatoo her todlers?!?!?!" anyway, the butterfiles would be cute but maybe u could get their zodiac signs kinda intertwined with each other. Cute!! BTW when u said "butterflies for each kid" i originally thot u meant giving each kid a butterfly

I'm actually trying to design a tattoo dedicated to my parents, so I know what you're getting at.
I would steer clear of the zodiac unless you're really into astrology. If the tattoos are supposed to represent your kids, the symbols should be something that represents who they are as people. What are their personalities like? What is their heritage? If you're going to have any words on there, maybe put them in the kids' native heritage language (e.g., if they're of German descent, put their names in German, etc.).
For the symbol, just try to think of a plant, animal, or thing that you think represents who each child is as a person. Kids have personalities from birth, you see it in them right away. Are they outspoken and assertive? Shy and quiet? Unusually intelligent? Creative? Extra cheerful? What would you use to symbolize such traits? Have fun with it. Make sure it's both something you feel accurately represents your kids (at least at this point in their lives), and that you like enough to have it on your body forever. Even if the kids change with age, you'll never regret remembering them as they are now.

That's funny.. "don't tattoo your kids".... but from the original question I can see why someone may have thought that the tattoos were for the children. There are so many options that you can choose. I am very big on originality, so I don't know what to offer you but, if you do take in some ideas from different posts on this site... switch it up to be very unique. There is nothing worse then walking by someone who has the same tattoo as you!!!

Sounds like a very beautiful and wonderful idea. I have a tattoo with my childrens names' on my upper arm. :-) It's a great way to honor your children. Just because he didn't come from your personal womb doesn't mean that he's not your son. You're giving him the loving home and nurtureing that he needs. I say BRAVO to you for wanting such a beautiful tattoo for your children. Good luck and happy tattooing!

That's a hard answer: I also have two kids and the tats I'm getting are designed around their names/likes. My son's name is Jesse James and is a big time rodeo freak. My daughters name is Kiah Rose and is the biggest priss/drama queen. So, i designed those two tats around that. Good Luck, and you'll come up with something that is totally unique!

Would you consider getting portrait tattoos? If you take a picture of the two of them together to a tattoo artist who does great portrait work, you would end up with a fantastic looking tattoo.

I took a copy of my son's footprints that they took in the hospital. I had those tattooed on my back. I love it and I get many compliments.

I would get them each a half a heart or something so that they are always connected in some way. You know, they each get half of something so when they put them together they make a whole... How old are these kids. just curious.
