We declared war on Japan on December 8, 1941. Germany and Italy declared war on us on December 9, 1941.

Congress declared war on Japan on Dec. 8, 1941. The Axis powers of Germany, Japan and Italy had a pact that anyone at war with either of them would, in effect, be at war with all of them so Germany declared war on the USA and you know the rest of the story.

Considering what the Germans are doing to Chrysler, I'd say we are still at war with Germany, but the Pearl Harbor attack made Japan the first declared enemy of the U.S., Germany declared war on the U.S. a day later.

If you are talking about worldwarII, then it is Japan because they taunted us with Pearl harbor. We declared war against Japan because of that incident.

Germany drew us into it and so did Italy. Then... all hell broke loose.

All 3 paid dearly later in war as you know but gained later economically till today by doing business with USA. The guilt trip we had for dropping atomic bomb made us help Japan in a big way. History 101

this depends where you are from.first japan invaded china in 1936 i think(the Manchuria incident) and then joined ww2 but were not considered an enemy of America until the pearl harbor attack
and if you are British they were an enemy of them when we declared war on Germany as japan had an alliance with them since 1936

now germany. england declaired war on germany in 1939 america got involved in this in a back seat capaccity from the start (supplying arms and financial help to the allied forces) then declared war on germany in 1942 i think hope this answer is of help

We didn't go to war until Japan bombed us. We were staying out of, or so they say, we were building a naval fleet though. It was because of Japan that we joined the war but we went the full length once we did. Japan put us in the war, so i guess you could say that it started with Japan since they started ttacking us then we retaleated right away on them, but we did go to war with Germany right around the same time, but because Germany was backing Japan in the war.

So I guess you could say either, we started with Japan, or you could say both. I would have to say Japan though, because they were the first we attacked and the reason that we joined. I hope this helps you and your family out!!

In WWII, technically Japan. Germany declared war on us soon after.

If you're not talking about WWII only, we fought Germany in WWI. Then again, we did a little bit of fighting with Japan in the mid 19th century, so maybe they win.

Who directly attacked the U.S. at Pearl Harbor?
A: Japan
Germany declared war on the U.S. after FDR announced war on Japan. We then declared war on Germany as well.
