What you are saying brings up a very important point: nobody has the right to believe for others, and that includes parents teaching their children that their religion is correct and that all others are false/heretical/dangerous etc. All religions in the world have good and bad aspects, and can lead people to happiness, community responsiblity and enlightenment, as well as to bigotry, discrimination and murder.
And it's the assumption that one's religious choice is "the way", that is the only way, that leads to intolerance and the kind of sanctimonious behavior that I'm sure will be on display in many of the answers you'll get telling you to just read the bible, or to accept someone specific's teachings on X, Y, or Z.
The truth is nobody can say for sure that what they take on faith is fact, and you should beware of anyone who tries to convince you otherwise. Ulitmately, it's a choice you can choose to make or not, within your own heart and mind

Everyone thinks that their religion is THE RIGHT one, and their constantly trying to convert the evil, catholics/muslims/budists/baptists/Protestants ect.
They all think their doing the right thing, but what everyone needs to do is let everyone find their own path to God. Some texts say there is only one way to heaven, others say there are many.
What confuses me is, if Christians claim that their God is so perfect, why would he allow all these false doctorines to flil the Earth and give some of us no idea which one to turn to.

I apreciate that you said you grew up Baptist.... not that you grew up Christian... some do not make the distiction... I happen to be Conservative in my Baptist affiliation... but being a Baptist will not get me into Heaven... only those of The Church will enter Heaven...
But you are off course in believing any one can find their own Salvation.... Salvation only comes from God... and is His free gift to all who come to Him in The way He prescribes... and ONLY in The Way He prescribes... mankind dose not get to make up it's own way to God.
I came to God in The Way He prescribed at the age of 53... no man, priest, pastor, act, ritual, Book, doctrine or dogma of man's invention involved... just God and me... and it was not untill after I received His free gift of Salvation that he led me to a small concervative Baptist congregation... where I was voted in as a member a year later... it is not Baptist doctrin or any other "doctrin" that gets any one into Heaven... That is strictly up to God to decide...
Here is a link... I invite you to visit.. it is my testimony. and is a page on my website... if you read my testimony I invite youto go to the home page and start through as I have it set up... any questions or comments may be sent to the address on the contact page

By carefully looking at and pondering the positive or negative fruits that come from the followers of a particular religion. Does this religion teach salvation and enlightenment from within-is it self serving? Or does it teach salvation and enlightenment from without-through Jesus Christ? Are the followers self serving, seek pleasure for themselves, or hate anyone who isn't like them? Or, are they completely selfless, dedicating their time and efforts toward helping those who are less fortunate like Christian homeless ministries, Habitat For Humanity, or the countless missionaries feeding and ministering to those who are starving both physically and spiritually?

I was raised Southern Baptist, studied many religions .the spirit within you is who you should ask.
we only can give differing opinions
spiritual truth is of course found in the spirit my dear
& God is Not in a book.
It is found in your heart.
ask with faith and love and listen and God will speak to you .you must be quiet and attentive and be in fervent prayer and you will be lead by the spirit and can then do Gods will, after getting atunded to the spirit it will guide you at all times thru the day.you must have your attentian on the spirit ,as Jesus said all that call on his name will not be saved, only those who do my fathers will , will make it to heaven,
so hopw does one know what Gods will is? they must ask what his will is of course,& listen.and then do.
I wish for you the very best on your spiritual journey

Everyone knows that my god is the only real god, and that everyone who believes in a different god is going to hell. Some people are just too stubborn to convert to the FSM. Vegetarians would do well to realize that meatless sauce can be delicious too.

Actually, there is only one God and all religions worship the same God, whether you call Him YHWH, Jehovah, Elohim, Allah, Vishnu, etc. It is the SAME God. There are many names but one God! All the major world religions come from the same God and are parts of one process of progressive revelation.
Yes, one should find one's own salvation and investigate the truth for oneself.

There is one God. This is not to deny there may be lesser gods of different kinds...but there is only one top dog God. Maybe we will know him because we will not know what he looks like...think about it.

Good for you to question; you're right, no one should believe for others. I found some interesting thoughts in two books which I (hope) have linked here. Of course, there are books rebutting these books.

Only you can answer this question, and you answer it by learning more about yourself and your connection to everyone else in the world. It's a spiritual quest and not a material one.
