You won't be seen as a burden, you'll be made very welcome. The only thing that people from Ireland don't like is when Americans call themselves "Irish" even though they were not born here and don't live here.

Of course not, we Irish are not like that, there are libraries and birth and death registers to find out any information you require.
The normal people on the street like me will be more interested in where you are from and telling you about this island, I don't think the ordinary folks would be able to answer any question regarding ancestars but you never know.
Come to Galway city, there is loads of non-Irish born people currently living there amongst the Irish nationals, the nightlife is amazing and the amount you will learn in a night out is better than 10 libraries. Dublin city is the same but I don't like that town as much even though the majority of my friends now live there

Since Ireland relies on Tourism, and everyone I know that has been there has been treated well, I would assume that you will be welcome.
Of course if you act like an idiot and might flog you in the town square and banish you to the sea's deadly cold tide.
Michael Jackson has taken up residency (part time) in an old Irish Castle,.........does this tell you anything?
Ummmm, just don't tell any of them that you are of English desent. They may or may not want to hear that. LOL!

yes, they will see as another crazy irish from the woods (city), woods meaning knowing nothing about your roots. you may know about irish family and culture but not in with the real irish. they will take you in and help you. you are family but in back of their minds they know you are a city dude. bring money and buy them beer, than you will be in with them.
