I have a two year old daughter and a three week old son. The only negative thing about the pregnancy experience is stretch marks. I am fully satisfied with being a Mommy. My fiance believes two children is a perfect number and believes me getting my tubes tied would be wise. I'm only going on 21 years and feel it's very possible my fiance and I may regret the tubal ligation considering we're so young. Because I breastfeed, birth control isn't very smart as a brith control choice once sex is permitted. Condoms are extremely pricey and not as reliable. To keep from getting tubes tied what form of birth control can be used instead? Thanx for the advice!!!

I went through the same thing. When I got married, I had a son, and my husband had 2 kids. Then we had 2 together, so we have 5 total. I was definitely positive about getting my tubes tied, until my gynecologist's assistant called me over to talk to me privately. She told me that she wasn't trying to influence my decision, she just wanted me to really think about it. She said that once you het it done, there is no turning back. There is a reversal operation, but it's very costly, and even then, the chances of becoming pregnant again are slim. She told me that she wouldn't have brought it up if she had not been in the same situation. She had 2 kids with a man, and then got divorced. Since then, she had remarried, and her and her current husband cannot have any kids together. She said it is the most regretful thing she has ever done. She told me about this other form of birth control called Mirena, an IUD. She gave me info on it, and I thought about it for a couple weeks, and then decided to do it. Yes, we have 5 kids, but I love my kids so much, and I would hate to not have the choice in the matter any longer if we did decide to have another later. I'm only 25, not much older than you. I had it done, and it is usually paid for if you have insurance through your employer. I only had to pay $25 for the appointment. It doesn't hurt, you can't feel a thing (your husband won't be able to, either), and it lasts for five years. Plus if you ever decide to have another child, you simply make an appointment, and they pull it out, no pain involved. I'd definitely think about it. Once you get your tubes tied, that's pretty much it. At least this way the chances of getting pregnant are near nonexistant, yet you still always have the choice. Later on down the line if you do become 100% decided that you don't want any more kids, you can make the choice to get your tubes tied. Good luck!

Most doctors won't even do a tubal ligation until your at least 25 years old. I wouldn't do it if I were you- your way too young. You have no idea what life has in store for you. You can absolutely go on the pill, even when your breastfeeding. It's a different kind of pill for breastfeeding women. Talk to your doctor about it- it's the best way. Or, the other thing you can do is get an IUD. That is where they implant a device in your uterus and it can last up to 10 years. Many women use these too. It's done in a simple office procedure. The best person to give you your options is your MD. One more thing, if your fiance feels so strongly about it,, why doesn't he get a vasectomy? The prodecure is a lot less complicated and less risky than you getting your tubes tied. And it's reversible.

Just so you know, as young as you are, you may not be able to find a doc that will tie your tubes anyway. My sister was 27, had 2 kids and the docs kept telling her she was too young for that. She finally found one who would. When I had to use birth control, we always used condoms (which, BTW are statistically just as reliable as the pill). You can find them somewhat inexpensively if you know where to look (like Costco). BTW-I had my tubes tied and I AM NOT taking hormones. I have NEVER KNOWN A SOUL who had their tubes tied that had to have hormones. That's the most asinine thing I have EVER heard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And when my sister got her's done, she missed like 3 DAYS of work, not 6 weeks. It's nothing like a C-section, it's a surgery through a small incision in your navel. I think that answerer has gotten a tubal confued with a HYSTERECTOMY, 2 totally different things. For an expert.... UGH!!!!

Well this is coming from someone who did get her tubes tied at the age of 21. My kids are only 13 months apart and at that time at the young age i was with 2 babies, i felt it was the best thing i could do for me and my kids. And you know what, i don't regret it a bit. You already have 2 kids and now a days, any more then that is too expensive. I say go for it. You will only be out of commission for a couple of days and a little while after that you will be back to your self again.

If both you and your husband feel that 2 children are enough and have decided that you dont want to have anymore. Then I would sugguest for him to have a vesectomy

The recovery time for him to have a vesectomy would be ALOT less than if you had a tubelitagion. He would go in on a Friday and have the surgery (in office) and be back at work on Monday .... no sex or heavy lifting for a week. 100% effective because they cut the tube that the sperm travels thru and take out a section so that it can not pass.

If you have a tubelitagion then you are going to be out of work for 6weeks (same as a C-Section) and probably have to take hormone pills for the rest of your life .... also it is not 100% effective you could still get pregnant (tubal pregnancy)

My sister-in-law was 20 and had 2 children already with her husband. They decided on this sort of tubal, where they put some sort of bands around each end, but do not cut them. She can have them removed if she wants to have any more children. I would consider that, instead of the more permanent way. You never know- you may want more children later!
