Ok, I need to know this. Quite often I hear statistics for the probability of the universe starting. Now, this confuses me, as when I was in school, I was taught if something has happened, the probability of it having had happened was 100%. Am I just misinterpreting it, or do the Creationists really need to stop citing statistics in the formation ofa universe?

I like Schroedinger's cat. It was my first intro into the stuff I find weird, but fun.

don't ya just love the creationists, wracking their brains trying to figure out how the universe came to be. it's really simple. God created it .stop trying to figure it out. it will only give you a headache.

Probabilities are time dependent in various ways. For example, the probability of a given event occurring in the next minute is far lower than the probability for that same event happening in the next week.

Another way in which they are time dependent is that they assume an initial state of conditions. One of these conditions that is assumed is that the outcome for which probability is being calculated has not already occurred. Just as with Shroede's kitty, if the box has already been opened and the health of the kitty observed, the indeterminate state has already collapsed and the probability is that it's time to find a new cat. :)

Therefore, any data used to calculate the probability of the universe spontaneously forming would be taken from the state prior to that formation, without regard for the rather obvious fact that it has already formed.

It is, however, a bit like trying to eat your lunch while pretending there is NOT an elephant in the room. The quality of your lunch is unavoidably impaired.

Well, Christians talking about the universe "happening by chance" is just absurd for several reasons:

(1) What is the probability of God happening by chance?

(2) You can't calculate the probability of the universe because you don't know the pre-existing conditions of matter or space. If our universe exists in a larger multiverse, the universe as we know it would be more or less inevitable.

Anyway, regarding physics and determinism. There is a Schroedinger's Cat problem. I'll let you Google that on your own.

57% of statistics are made up on the fly. Sometimes as high as 79%.

We have no real idea of the probabilities involved, but one is provided by - oh what was his name - the steady state theory guy. Anyway, something about tornadoes making a junkyard into a fully functioning jet plane.

But, the odds are rather high - but by eliminating one possibility (ie: creation) you deliberately stack the odds to be 100% in favor of the current non-theistic theory.

creationists need to shut the feck up and go back to whatever school they went to and demand their money back as the school has obviously failed to educate them. You could probably get away with just a math refresher course ;)

First you must ask THIS question: WHAT IS THE PROBABILITY OF NO PROBABILITY?
