Saint Aurelius Augustine

Aurelius Augustine, Augustine of Hippo, born A.D. 354, Tagaste; died August 28, 430, Hippo Regius (modern Bône, now Annaba, Algeria) is a Saint and Doctor of the Church according to Roman Catholicism. In the Eastern Orthodox he is also a Saint, the Blessed Augustine, the Bishop of Hippo.

Life
Saint Augustine was raised in Roman north Africa, educated in Carthage and employed as a professor of rhetoric in Milan by 383. He followed the Manichaean religion in his student days, and was converted to Christianity by the preaching and example of Ambrose of Milan. He was baptized at Easter in 387, and returned to north Africa and created an monastic foundation at Tagaste for himself and a group of friends. In 391 he was ordained a priest in Hippo. He became a famous preacher (more than 350 preserved sermons are believed to be authentic), and noted for combatting the Manichaean heresy. He also advocated the use of force against the Donatists, asking "Why . . . should not the Church use force in compelling her lost sons to return, if the lost sons compelled others to their destruction?" (The Correction of the Donatists, 22–24)

In 396 he was made coadjutor bishop of Hippo (assistant with the right of succession on the death of the current bishop), and remained as bishop in Hippo until his death in 430. He left his monastery, but continued to lead a monastic life in the episcopal residence. He left a Rule (Latin, Regula) for his monastery that has led him to be designated the "patron saint of Regular Clergy," that is parish clergy who live by a monastic rule.

Augustine died in 430 during the siege of Hippo by the Vandals. He is said to have encouraged its citizens to resist the attacks, primarily on the grounds that the Vandals adhered to Arian Christianity, which Augustine regarded as heretical.

He came up with the concept of Original Sin - before him it did not exist.

He also came up with the concept that women have no souls. Fortunately that did not make it into the Christian Canon.

His view on women set us back centuries. He believed women to be weaker and more prone to temptation - because of his earlier life.

He was a Pagan, whose Christian mother prayed for everyday. When his mistress was about to give birth to his child - instead of marrying her he went into Christianity.

During his time as a Christian he wrote the famous book 'Confessions of St. Augustine' that detailed his earlier life of sin and his struggle to be a good Christian.

Most of what St. Augustine wrote made it's way into the early church. Fortunately, also, most of what he wrote is now disregarded.

Websites can only be the best help you can get aside from the books you can buy in bookstores or read in Catholic libraries. What I can tell you about him is not reliable enough as I just heard pieces of stories about him from church sermons and seminars. Hearsays are not that good most of the time.

Augustine wrote that women who have been raped, bring it on themselves, and literally deserve it, for being too "sexy".

A common belief back from the days when women were still considered property. Of course, it makes you wonder what other revelations from God are incorrect as well.

For Augustine, the horrific sin involving rape, was not that a woman was forced into sex against her will, but that she most likely enjoyed it.

To be a former ability which you was, in an attempt to be a former day saint might mean that i used to be a saint until eventually I willfully backslided from the religion and in direction of hell, who prefer to sink back into my sin from which I escaped. it incredibly is an occasion of an "Apostate" from which "Apostacy" is derived

I suggest you read his writings instead of asking questions that you can learn yourself. In other words, don't be lazy.Dont ask others to do your work.
