Why do sinners and atheists prefer THIS Word of our Lord to ALL others?

Kerry,
I often hear this statement of Jesus quoted by non-Christians and professing believers when they are confronted with their sin and refuse to change. Whether people are well-read in the Bible or not, it is amazing how many of them can quote this verse!

NOT 0,
You can't Ignoring the context of the verse as well as what the rest of the Bible teaches. That would be ignorant.

Smorgeous,
Why do you take this single verse and try say that it is wrong to judge. What is this verse really saying? Does the Bible really forbid judging others?
Or is that just enough of the Word of God to justify your state.

Fourtney,
O-P-E-N W-I-D-E.........
Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye" (Matthew 7:1-5)

There.

2007-03-23 08:11:29 · update #9

Ibytz,
Verse one of Matthew 7 seems to be telling people not to judge because if you do not judge, you will not be judged. However, "we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad" (II Corinthians 5:10)-everyone will be judged by God. Then verse two tells us that in whatever manner we judge others, we will be judged. Right?

xapeao,
Don't hate the person man. Hate the sin (atheist ideas).
In the above; Jesus then proceeds to explain HOW TO JUDGE. First, he says, you must take "the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye" (Matthew 7:5) and if you do not do that first, you are being a hypocrite. This passage does not condemn all instances of judging others, but it does speak against judging another person IF YOU HAVE A PLANK IN YOUR EYE.

2007-03-23 08:14:55 · update #11

Sam,
What is meant by a plank? Jesus is using an illustration and telling people that if you judge someone else, you better make sure that your life is right first-get all the planks out and THEN you may proceed to CAREFULLY judge (which helps to remove specks from someone else's life). Isn't that right?

Missie,
Out of any due respect:
You are SADLY mistaken.
Christians ar COMMANDED to judge. And yes, JUDGE others.
Don't continue to mislead our children. Souls depend on "faithful" Christians.
Romans 2:3 agrees with this: "So when you, a mere man, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God's judgment?" The Apostle Paul is saying that whenever you (a mere man) make judgments you better make sure that you do not do the same things. We need to judge righteously, as Jesus said, "Stop judging by mere appearances, and make a right judgment" (John 7:24).

It is a standard response from someone that has done wrong in his moral beliefs or spiritual beliefs. You also will put up shields when you are being attacked. The sheild would for be put up for leagistic judgements, or from one who is ignorant of Gods word other than this type of response. Perhaps its the only thing they have grabbed onto when it comes to Gods word. The duty of the Christian, is to judge perhaps, but to judge with love. We need to let people know what offends us, and when we are offended then use the opportunity to spread the word of God to people who don't pay attention to it. Aurguments? Yes there will be arguments but you have to listen to what the weapons the non believer is using. They will be shallow and without foundation. Christians have a solid foundation in Christ and have to learn how to build on it using the tools we are given. Non believers have a very thin skin to everything they think they believe in. There fore their shields are very thick. But be aware of the fact even thick walls will come down eventually. Hopefully that will happen for them by the actions portrayed by true Believers of Christ, not the ones who just go to church every Sunday. For the sake of the ones being spoken of. I pray that message will get through before they have to face GOD after death.

That is not my personal favorite. But I think because it exempts people from being judged by others. You really don't want other people constantly judging your actions. I personally choose not to judge others, we're all human and we all make mistakes, only God knows what was really going through a person's heart and mind when they made a certain decision...and maybe they did have a good reason for doing what they did. we will never truly know all the extenuating circumstances and without all the facts...we cannot fairly judge, so the best thing to do is not judge. Let each person live their lives as they see fit. God will take care of all the judging when the time is right. And HE is the only one that can be truly fair. By the way...ALL HAVE SINNED AND FALL SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD. We are ALL sinners...so you're question is a little bit off. Are you trying to say that you have never sinned? Just to have sinful thoughts...is a sin in and of itself. My favorite text is Isaiah 40:31- But they that wait upon the LORD
shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings as EAGLES
they shall run, and not be weary;
and they shall walk, and not faint. ------ God will help you through whatever it is you are facing. That always makes me feel better.
Also--- All things are possible through Christ who strengthens me.
Whatever your favorite text is...it doesn't matter...you should never judge other people because we can never know the whole surrounding circumstances and we can never judge fairly because we will always let our emotions control..We should simply let God judge. Also..God will judge you if you are constantly judging others...we each need to focus on our own salvation...and not what others are doing wrong. We should always forgive others..just as God forgives us.

Well, the sinner part cannot be true, since everyone is a sinner besides children and those with the mind of a child.
Plus, atheists are stupid. At least be something, even a broad term like a theist, you do not even have to clarify between mono and poly.

I used to be a probation officer. The US criminal justice system says we should not judge that someone has done anything until it's been proved to us.

As a Christian, I will not judge that you have accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior until you prove it to me. Until then, I will preach the salvation of Christ to you, and after that I will use all scripture for teaching and reproof. That's what God gave us the Bible for.

Yes, they often conveniently leave out the part that comes after "Judge not lest ye be judged" which says, " . . .Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, THEN you will be able to see to remove the speck from your brother's eye." Judge righteously.

Because that is one of the only sentences in the whole book that makes sense. That and Jesus words to love one another. Two passages that Christians ignore.

It potential I might desire to attempt my ultimate to comprehend; because of the fact i will choose not something i don't comprehend. sometimes I try this properly and that could be a triumph for the two one human beings. sometimes I try this properly and that is a few thing I wish i did not see. sometimes I try this poorly and that could be a humorous 'certainty'. sometimes I try this poorly and make an @ss of myself. yet i'm continuously keen to evaluate an attraction. that's the comparable technique I difficulty myself to - and attempt to choose the judgment exceeded on me to boot. Going to heaven or hell does not relax interior my judgment no count what I % approximately something for others - i'm not even specific that it concerns how I choose myself. it fairly is God's determination. MY judgments I question - I have confidence God's judgments.

because its from a metallica song:

Holier Than Thou:

No more!
The crap rolls out your mouth again
Haven't changed, your brain is still gelatin
Little whispers circle around your head
Why don't you worry about yourself instead

Who are you? where ya been? where ya from?
Gossip burning on the tip of your tongue
You lie so much you believe yourself
Judge not lest ye be judged yourself

Holier than thou
You are
Holier than thou
You are

You know not

Before you judge me take a look at you
Can't you find something better to do
Point the finger, slow to understand
Arrogance and ignorance go hand in hand

It's not who you are it's who you know
Others lives are the basis of your own
Burn your bridges build them back with wealth
Judge not lest ye be judged yourself

Holier than thou
You are
Holier than thou
You are

You know not

Yeah who the hell are you?
Hey yo

Holier than thou
You are
Holier than thou
You are

You know not

Not

Because they misunderstand it's meaning. God expects us to judge between truth and lies, right and wrong, etc. He doesn't want us to prejudge or judge others as if we have final authority on something. God is the final authority of all.

Example:
"You are going to hell."=Wrong kind of judgement (Only God knows this)
"If you don't accept Christ you will go to hell."=Truth

Very simply because they like there works and some are just misslead . Some say it because they just copy what others say.

People are often easliy offended because they are insecure because of there bad decisions and actions.

It is funny that they say that to Christians after they ask a question and we answer.
