at the county ITS TERRIBLE!!! the white bread and the oranges were the only thing I could stomach. Usually there is like a main "entree" (lol), and possibly some nasty mushed up "mixed vegetables", the entrees were unrecognizable, foul, "meat" of some kind. Angel food cake sometimes that tasted like chemicals. This is bringing back BAD memories. YUCK. Oh and a lot of smashed "bologna" sandwiches which consisted of 2 slices white bread, one piece of room temp "bologna" and a mustad packet.

It really depends on where you go. I was watching a show one time about the worst Jail in the USA and the served rotten meant and moldy bread. But most of the times it will be things very simple just enough to get your required food amounts for that day. Unless you are some rich person of course!

Imagine the grossest school cafeteria food then multiply the nastyness by about 100. lol. Depends on the jail, but usually they serve cheap food with no seasoning at all because it's cheaper to not add any flavor. They serve seemingly 'normal' food like spaghetti, meatloaf, things of that sort, but it is so gross. They don't care if you're vegetarian. I survived my stay with just eating carrots and celery that came with lunch and nothing else. If you are looking to lose weight, good place to start lol.

I know someone who's been in jail (not prison). He got fed dry toast with less than a tsp. of odd jelly, and 13 french fries. Yes, he counted them. 13 fries with lunch. He said the food was horrible. And half a cup of oatmeal for breakfast. He lost over 10 pounds in 30 days.

When I was a cop years ago, the inmates would prepare foods pretty much like what you get in a school cafeteria. I once saw an inmate with a HUGE cold sore, touch the sore, then plunge his bare hands straight into a big bowl of meatloaf. Havent eaten meatloaf since........cant without remembering that

In Kansas City, Missouri, in the morning, you get a raspberry Danish and decaf coffee. In the afternoon and evening, you get a bologna or turkey sandwich with mustard and more decaf coffee. I am glad I am not in jail there.

There's one prison in the Southwest that is famous, can't think of the name offhand - the warden only serves green balogne and makes prisoners wear pink uniforms.

Not sure. but interesting fact, in New England a couple hundred years ago they feed the inmates lobsters, constantly. It was considered poor man's food. I don't think they melted any butter for the inmates though :)
