Hi, It seems you are not happy with your diagnosis or with the personality of your psychiatrist. There are a lot of professionals that practice in various ways. The average board certified psychiatrist practices neuropsychology and therapy that can range from cognitive behavioral to diagnosing and treating depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder and more. A board certified psychiatrist will also prescribe medication/medications for treatment of certain psychiatric disorders. One good way to determine if a psychiatrist is credible is if he/she accepts insurance that is a positive sign in addition to asking to see board certifications and credentials along with licensure. If you have insurance you can also contact your insurance agency to get a list of mental health providers. When choosing a psychiatrist or psychologist you have to be careful. Unqualified individuals practicing in the field can traumatize or re- traumatize patients so be sure to check credentials and don't be ashamed or embarrassed most psychiatrist and psychologist will be happy to provide the information. Also your primary care physician (PCP) may refer you to someone. If you are in NY State there are strict laws against practicing in the mental health field and not being board certified or licensed.

If it's a licensed psychietrist you must report him to the American Psychological Association or whatever organization is in charge. Such a practice of "unapproved" methods of diagnosis can result in a loss of license and is violation of federal law. If its not a licensed psychietrist your just dealing with a quack.
