Everybody pretty much has it right. Depending on the dentist root canals take one to two visits usually 45 minutes or so each. The needle is the worst part, just a little pinch, but once you get past that, you should be fine. Take some advil before the novacaine wears off and you really shouldn't need much else.

Dont worry about the dry socket stuff someone posted, that doesn't apply to root canals. You can get a dry socket only after having a tooth extracted. Good luck,I'm sure you will be fine.

About an hour, the needle is a needle they hurt for alittle while then your numb. BUT!!! be careful after the root canal that you do not SMOKE or suck any liquid or shake from a straw because you can get dri socket and let me tell you!!! That is the most painful thing you can go through. Trust me I had it. I would get 5 more root canals then have dri socket again.

I'm in the middle of having one done right now. The # of visits depends on how it goes. Once the root is removed there should be no more than mild discomfort around the area of the tooth/gum from the work. That should be taken care of w/a couple of ibuprofen (advil) tablets. If after a day or so theres still pain, you should call your dentist. Infections in the area are not uncommon. Overall, if your dentist is good, more annoying than painful. Same goes for the needle. Good Luck!

I've had a couple. They took about 45 minutes each. There was little pain after the numbness wore off (Advil took care of it) The needle hardly causes any pain, especially after the initial injection. Don't worry! Root canals aren't anywhere near as bad as people make them out to be! Technology has made for a fairly simple procedure.

Yes have had two myself. The procedure does take a while but the most pain you will feel will be the initial deadening done by the dentist.. and these days they have a procedure where they can swap that part of the mouth that receives the novacaine. While it is going on you will not feel any pain. Afterwards, the dentist should give you some pain meds to take at home. They never bothered me much. A dentist does not do a procedure until all the infection or abcess is gone.

It took about an hour for each of mine, yeah the needle hurt some, but I'm a woos when it comes to the dentist. The problem I encountered, was the dentist didn't get all the abcess out, he said I shouldn't have pain after the medicine wore off, but it was there, and bad. I had to have the procedure done over again, second time went fine.

the needle stings going into your mouth. It is uncomfortable though. I'll be honest. i gotta say that's the worst part, after that you feel nothing. just keeping your mouth open for that long is a drag
It shouldn't take longer than 30-45 min. that includes the novacaine shot. they usually wait a few minutes for it to take effect. then they go to work and depending on the location of the tooth, it could be 20 minutes or longer. u will be sore afterwards, so have tylenol ready. no biggie! good luck

My dad got FIVE. Sorry, don't know the details. All I know is that you don't want to get more than one. My dad said his root canals are TERRIBLE, so terrible that he got two teeth pulled out last month because he was in so much pain, even though he got the root canals years before.

Yes. It took 50 minutes and was pain free. Yes, I did have slight pain with the needle - that was just a few seconds.

It's not as painful as it is time consuming . It is usually done in 3 procedures ( visits ) .No , the needle does not hurt . Only a slight , brief sting .
