well, the honor system doesnt work, thats been proven.

they will order DNA testing (he will contest, but has to anyway). once his is proven the father, they calculate incomes of BOTH parents and come up with the amount.

today, child support is based upon BOTH parents incomes, thus both parents contribute to the support. if one parent isnt working, they can calculate an income for them (if skilled-then at what they are capable of making--unskilled, then min wage). if the child is very young, they may not requre an income amount from the mother. if they do, they can calculate day care expenses (bring estimates for daycare from 3 daycare centers for costs).. then daycare expenses are added in the child support.

then he pays, it registers on the database (the 1-800 number they will give you) and takes about 3 days to get credited to the debit card (some states have debit card you use, not checks sent for child support), and 5-7 days for it to get to you if its a check (not debit card state).

but every state is different (slightly) about this. learn your states laws; learn them ALL.

It should take about a month, assuming that the wages are ebing attached. Unfortunately our system is really slow. It makes it very easy for deadbeat dad's like my ex to work for a few weeks then quit and move on to another job. You have to keep calling the court to check on your case.
