And isn't a couple an object of two couples who equally lust themselves, agreeing to be together?

No. Lust feeds the needs of the body.
Love feeds the needs of a soul and starts with friendship or a common commitment.

Part of the answer would come in how someone defines lust. Lust has several definitions. It is passion, intense sexual attraction, and other things around the same idea. I am dating a man that I have been with for two months. I do think that some people have an initial physical attraction, but it may not be lust exactly. It may simply be someone that believes that the person they are looking at is attractive. That's all. It doesn't nessecarily mean that they immediately want to jump into bed with that person. Also, other people do not have this experience depending on how they meet the person. I met the guy I am with on eharmony; therefore, the initial connection was to his personality. I do not think all love starts out in this way, but I do think if it does, it may be reflect not upon love but upon the person and what they are looking for in a relationship.

No lust is the animal instinct, dogs dont love their mate, birds dont love their mate, they are born lustful so that their species may procreate. Humans lust for the same reason, but love is nurtured and grown. So with that said, one does not lead to another.

you might be confusing lust with attraction. If I lust for someone I really want them physically. If I am attracted to someone I like the whole package, mind body and soul.

Depends on the love. Not me, with my mom, fer instance. But re couples, I've never loved without first lust, so I agree there.

There are different types of love.
You are referring to romantic love.
It often starts with lust, but it doesn't have to.
There is also brotherly love ....and I hope that has nothing to do with lust.
There is love of neighbor and sadly lust pokes its nose into that.
Justice, in fact, is a form of love ...in that one gets their reward, or punishment.
Sometimes the punishment is due to lusting.

Lust is good. I like lust. I'm lusting after someone right now who I actually do love.

"There is a marked difference between happiness and pleasure; between physical sensations and authentic emotions..." Joanna de Angelis (a spirit that died on 1822). It is in one of my books. She says "sex, if devoid of dignity of love, becomes pointless and brutalized... Sex is a sanctuary of procreation, the source of noble emulations, and an instrument of renewal through exchange of hormonal stimuli, but it became an object of abuse, decadence, and repulsion."

Peace!
