Don't try to stop missing him. Time takes care of a lot of things that life gives us. I took my dogs' name as my user name on line. His name was Alfie. Not a day goes by, that I don't think about him and the funny things he used to do to amuse me. I firmly believe that God gave us our pets to keep us sane. John Edwards, the Psychic, talks about dogs and other pets in the after life. I hope he is right, because I could think of nothing better than to roam the fields for eternity with my dogs. You can always get another dog , and I know that you will love him as much as you did "You Poopy". Someone once said that acquiring a dog may be the only opportunity
a human ever has in choosing a relative. I believe that with all
my heart and mind. I hope I made you feel a little better.

You know, there is nothing you or anyone can do.

My best advice is for you to find yourself a comfortable place to be alone and then indulge yourself in your misery until you just haven't any more tears to cry.

This won't make you stop missing your dog but it will make you feel better.

Now, look at the next step. You have the opportunity to have all of that love, all over again, just by adopting another puppy, so visit your shelter today and take home a whole new warm fuzzy tail wagger to give your love to.

Grief takes time to heal but I think you could use a change of place too.
You could volunteer at the local animal shelter. Kind of like in tribute to your Poopy. That way you get out of the house and work with all kinds of animals and who knows you might find another pet!
Try to remember the good times with you dog and soon you will not feel so bad.

Good luck

It's so sad when you lose your pet. I found that the best way to help you get over the loss of your pet is to go ahead and get yourself another one. Right now we have 3 cats and 3 dogs. One of our dogs is about 12, and not real heathy. I know one of these days it will be her time, but we have had many wonderful years with her, and having othere animals around will help so much in the healing process. If you are able to get another one, go ahead and do it! Maybe you could go to the local shelter, and resuce a needy dog, in her memory. Good luck.

I miss my Brandy- we lost her due to the tainted food recall- we had to put her down Feb 16th. The pain was so intense the next morning, we looked at pups- I didnt want another- so I thought but if I did, I knew what I wanted and felt I wouldn't find it all in one dog.
After browsing a pet place for 45 minutes, holding pups- feeling nothing for any of them, liked one but something told me no- just as I was ready to tell my husband and daughter "let's get going" the woman came over, told me they had a shizhu pup in the back and did we want to see him. I wasn't thrilled, I really had my heart set on another female but said "okay I guess" she brought him out, put him in my arms, he scooted up to my neck and fell asleep. I felt instant love and bond with him. I couldn't hand him back as I did the others, my daughter said "mom, he is the one"

If not for our new "Marty" I cannot say if I would have gotten through this mourning process as well as I have, not that I am not still mourning, but the emptiness in our hearts and home are not so great as they were. He has truly helped us get through.
I felt it was wrong at first to get another dog, in respect for Brandy, and asked our neighbors what they did when they lost their dogs, they stated getting another dog was a good idea. And I have heard that the spirit of your former pet will enter your new pet, at any time this can happen. I want Brandy back so badly it hurts- but I see a lot of her in Marty, he has his own personality but he does things she used to do. She was a shihzu poodle, he is a full breed shihzu.

You will always miss your sweet little poopy, just as we will always miss our Brandy. At one point I felt like I didn't want to go on without her it hurt so bad, still feel that way at times.
But I would have to say the right dog, the right time and place and you will find joy all over again as you had in your poopy.
One tip though? Don't buy for cuteness, hold pups, look for the bonding, you will know if he is the right one by how you feel- it is more than a heart melting over cuteness, it is a feeling of wanting to cry, never put him down, and a bond that you would feel as a kid with their favorite stuffed animal that you could never put down.
I wish you the best- and I know this pain you feel, it has only been a little over a month for us, we have a lot of mending to do, and now this past week to find out that Brandy actually died from the recalled dog food only opened new wounds to heal.
{{hugs}}

Get a new dog and a hobby you can both enjoy - like short-distance power-walking. If works for me.
